Quarry & Earthworks Survey

Extracted and remaining volumes, measured on site.

Converts contract areas and field measurements into extracted and remaining volumes, maximum permitted depth, a 2D site plan and a stratigraphic column for the pit face.

Overview

Quarry inspection used to mean a tape, a hand GPS, a notebook and an evening of arithmetic. This module does the arithmetic as you measure. Enter the contracted area in dunam or square metres, capture the four corner coordinates with the phone GPS, and record the length, width and depth actually worked.

The report adds a geological and environmental assessment: lithological variations in the face (gypsum veins, sand lenses, joints, faults, cross-bedding), laboratory compliance, local pollution, groundwater level, rehabilitation plan and the processing stages observed on site.

What you enter · What you get

What you enter

  • Contract area (dunam or m²) and contracted volume (m³)
  • Four corner coordinates captured by GPS
  • Worked length, width and depth (m)
  • Beds in the face, top to bottom, with thickness
  • Site observations: pollution, groundwater, rehabilitation

What you get

  • Extracted and remaining volume, and percentage of contract used
  • Maximum permitted depth check
  • Corner coordinates in UTM
  • 2D plan of worked and remaining areas
  • Stratigraphic column of the face with lithological description
  • Satellite image of the site and a full PDF report

How it works in the field

Capture the four corners by GPS
Measure the worked dimensions and log the face
Review volumes, plan and column

Method and equations

Area and volume

One Iraqi dunam equals 2,500 m². Worked volume is the product of the measured dimensions; the remaining volume is the contracted volume minus the worked volume.

Vw = L × W × D   ·   Vr = Vc − Vw   ·   A [m²] = 2500 × A [dunam]

Geographic to UTM

Latitude and longitude on the WGS 84 ellipsoid are projected to Universal Transverse Mercator using the series expansion in Snyder (1987), with a scale factor of 0.9996 on the central meridian.

zone = ⌊(λ + 180) / 6⌋ + 1   ·   k0 = 0.9996
